Searching Danish records - a case study - page 16

According to this entry Stenum (Parish) is in Hjørring (county), Denmark. It is the region of Nordjylland (North Jutland).

Since I am looking at this parish now, I decided to research it first.

There is a discrepancy between various records, as to where in Denmark Anton was born in:

Borglum - Denmark Emigration Index 1868 - 1908
Stenum -  from Ancestry.com
Stefnum - from the obituary
Steinim - from FindaGrave.com

I looked up every town using a Google search. This provides a clue what towns truly do exist:

According to this entry Stenum (Parish) is in Hjørring (county), Denmark. It is the region of Nordjylland (North Jutland).

What I took from this census is that:

Anton and his family live in Mantua, Box Elder County, Utah in 1900.

They possibly arrived as a family unit from Denmark in 1885.

All four members were born in Denmark.

3 of Maria's children are no longer living. 1or 2 of the children who are deceased could have been born between Peter's and Anton's births.

All 4 members of the family can speak English, but the census doesn't state that they can read and write English.

Please understand that:

Not every census film will have an index.

Some films will have an index in the front or back of the film, with all of the towns and/or villages are listed.

There might be multiple census years listed in one film.

Not all records/registers have all of the required infirmation entered on the page them (look at the headers for each page).

Some records have been lost or sustained water insect, fire, animal, or mold damage in the past.

Not all websites (except for the archives) will have all the years you want to look at. Each website will have different contracts that have been negotiated which define the contents of each website.

One of the things that you should know about Scandanavian archives is that all three archives have similar names:

Danish Archives = Rigsarkivet
Swedish Archives = Riksarkivet
Norwegian Archives = Digitalarkivet

Once you learn how to maneuver in one or the other archives, you will notice that there are similarities between them all.
